Machiavelli's The Prince presented by The Friends of Albany Public Library

Each session will deal with some aspect of the famous political theories of the Renaissance philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli.

Our goal is to examine Machiavelli's theories about politics and governance as they actually work, not just as they should work. We will compare his approach to political science with numerous examples from antiquity to the modern era. Particular attention will be paid to the political history of New York State, so that attendees can better appreciate Machiavelli's theories at work in the world around them.

Our facilitator, Giacomo Calabria, is an independent historian and an experienced teacher. The format of each session will be a presention by Giacomo, with comments and questions welcomed and encouraged. Reading The Prince ahead of time is encouraged but not required. The text is available online at constitution.org/mac/prince00.htm and as a book through Albany Public Library.
