Youth FX Screenwriting Workshop for Adults

Youth FX Screenwriting Workshop for Adults

Movies are our modern mythology—the stories we all watch entertain, inform and inspire us. Drama, comedy, action/adventure, science fiction, fantasy, thriller, horror, crime, noir, epic, western, war, rom-com, musicals… the list goes on….
But before we ever watch a movie, it has to get made. And before a movie gets made it needs to be written.
The screenplay is the blueprint.
The purpose of the 6 week intensive is to learn about film and television screenplay structure, analyze dramatic strategies in film and television, learn and apply correct script form, and creatively engage in the various stages of original scriptwriting. The goal of this class is to take your film from idea to first draft of a short screenplay.
During the class sessions, we will go over the technical and creative aspects to write a screenplay, using video clip and readings to illustrate these points. We will read sections of screenplays as examples and discuss storytelling strategies. Most writing will take place outside of class, and as people begin to complete pages, we will workshop people’s work.
This workshop is facilitated by David B. Easton, a writer, producer, and educator. He writes short and feature screenplays and is a passionate storyteller who joined Youth FX in 2016 and heads up the group’s production company - Rogue FX - in addition to managing a variety of film and commercial productions in New York City. As an educator for nearly 20 years, David loves to help others develop and tell their stories. Outside of his work in media and film, David has taught philosophy and multi-media studies at Brooklyn Free School and is an on-going workshop facilitator for the Brooklyn-based non-profit, Culturally Responsive Education.  He has also enjoyed acting in films such as Half Nelson (2006) and several other short films.
