Winter STEM Challenge

Winter STEM Challenge Online

[For children 8-13] Join the Youth Services staff at Albany Public Library for the Winter STEM Challenge. Participants will have the opportunity to test out theories about science and engineering while also having the chance to create and share their artistic vision!

January 7th - Cardboard Robotic Hand

Staff will lead the group through a guided tutorial on how to create a robotic hand using everyday items that can be found around the house. We will then test our creations and see if these items are functional!

January 14th - Engineering Challenges with Clothespins, Binder Clips, and Craft Sticks

With clothespins, binder clips, and craft sticks we will be able to build different types of structures. We will see how tall we can go without it falling over.

The first 20 registrations will have the option of picking up the supplies for both sessions prior to the event. Each kit contains the supplies to complete both the January 7th and the January 14th activities. There will be a limit of two supply kits per family. When registering, only register the number of children needing a space. Please include a phone number and email address when registering. You can pick up materials at the Howe or Bach Branch. After you have registered, call the branch where you'd like to schedule your kit pickup. We will start making appointments for participants to pickup their supply kits starting on 12/17/20. Pickups will be scheduled for 12/21-1/5/20.

The Zoom link to the event will be emailed to you a few days before the program and early Thursday, January 7th/ Thursday, January 14th.

If you have any questions about registration, please call the Howe Branch at 518-472-9485 or email at askalibrarian@albanypubliclibrary.org

If all spots are filled, you may still register to receive the link and be put on the waiting list.
